Akraberg is one of the richest wildlife areas in the Faroe Islands. More than 100 species of birds have been recorded in and around the headland, including both resident and migrating species.
Puffins, gannets, and fulmars use the surrounding cliffs and open sea as feeding and breeding grounds. From Vitastova’s cliff-top location, much of this activity is visible directly from inside the house. With binoculars, guests can follow birds riding the wind, diving into the sea, or gliding past at eye level.
The ocean itself is ever-present. Seals and other marine mammals are part of the surrounding ecosystem, and on rare occasions, a pod of orcas may be seen passing by.
