Getting Here
How do I get to Akraberg from Tórshavn?
The journey combines a ferry crossing and a short drive. The ferry passes several islands on the way and is a scenic trip in itself.
Timetables and tickets are available at ssl.fo. We recommend booking your ferry in advance, especially on weekends and in summer.
Take the ferry M/F Smyril, operated by SSL (Strandfaraskip Landsins), from Krambatangi terminal in Tórshavn to Tvøroyri on Suðuroy. The crossing takes approximately 2 hours and runs several times daily. You can bring your car, which we recommend — Suðuroy has no public transport to Akraberg (although there is a bus to the nearest village, Sumba).
From Tvøroyri, follow the road south through the island. The drive to Akraberg takes approximately 25–30 minutes and passes through some of Suðuroy’s most dramatic landscape before arriving at the southernmost tip of the Faroe Islands.
Once you arrive at Akraberg
Follow the road to the end until you reach a gate. You’ll find a key lock box at the gate — use the code provided in your booking confirmation to open it and retrieve the key. Once through, drive down to the red house (the yellow house nearby is a private residence, so make sure you have the right one). Please remember to close the gate behind you (you don’t have to lock it until you leave).
At the red house, a second key lock box is located next to the green door — your entry key is inside.
Is there parking at the lodge?

The Stay
What is the weather like?
Suðuroy and the southern Faroe Islands are shaped by the North Atlantic. Expect dramatic, fast-changing conditions at any time of year — sunshine, rain, wind, and fog can all arrive within a single day. This is part of what makes the place extraordinary.
In summer (June–August) you get long daylight hours and the best chance of calm, clear days. Puffins and other seabirds are most active in summer. Autumn brings powerful Atlantic storms. Winter offers deep darkness, the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights dancing over the ocean, and an atmosphere of profound stillness. Spring is fresh and wild.
There is no bad season — just different ones.
What should I pack?
Layers are essential. Even in summer, temperatures can be cool and conditions can change quickly. We recommend:
The house has binoculars you are welcome to use — but if you have your own, bring them.
Can we bring children?
Yes, children are very welcome. Please be aware that, although the area around the house is fenced, the cliffs and coastline around Akraberg are wild, and require adult supervision at all times.
Can we bring dogs?
Well-behaved dogs are welcome.
